Join NYU Libraries for a screening and discussion featuring the new restoration of "Farewell, etaoin shrdlu", from the David Loeb Weiss Film Collection (FILMS.002) held within the Tamiment Library at NYU Special Collections. The film documents the last night the The New York Times was set in linotype.
The 30 minute film will be preceded by a presentation showing the poor quality copies of the film which were previously available, including a VHS copy in the Avery Fisher Center that was reformatted in 2018, and a faded 16mm print found in the collection.
The discussion will address the work of restoring the film, as well as the importance of the Avery Fisher Center digitization work -- which provided a critical access point to this film prior to its restoration.
