Creative Reuse - Archival Media, Fair Use & You In-Person
All of us have the opportunity to draw inspiration from the rich history of archival media—from vintage films and photographs to music and documents. But how do you know what's safe to use and how to incorporate it into your work without running into legal issues? This workshop is designed to help you navigate the world of archival media, fair use, and best practices for creative reuse.
In this session, we’ll cover:
- What is Fair Use?: Learn the basics of fair use and how it can apply to your creative projects, including tips for balancing inspiration and respect for original content.
- Creative Commons & Public Domain: Discover resources for finding media that is free to use, including Creative Commons and public domain materials, and how to credit these sources in your work.
- Best Practices for Creative Reuse: Get practical advice on how to ethically reuse archival media in your projects, whether for school assignments, personal work, or public-facing projects.
- Where to Find Media: Explore platforms and databases that provide access to free and legally safe materials that can enrich your creative endeavors.
This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to learn how to responsibly and creatively reuse archival media in creative projects. We’ll help you unlock the potential of existing content while offering a clear, ethical approach to creative reuse.
