How To Make Your Own Poetry Book In-Person

This is a two-part workshop where you will make and assemble your own soft cover poetry book!

The first hour:

A step-by-step lesson where we will lead you in constructing and binding a blank, paperback booklet. All materials and instructions for bookmaking will be provided.

The second hour:

Includes a brief history of homemade poetry books, followed by time for you to decorate the cover and assemble poetry inside the pages of your book (either your own poetry, and/or poetry you enjoy and would like to have preserved in a book). We strongly recommend that you bring your own poetry materials for this portion of the workshop. However, we will provide some magazines and select poetry as backup if you are not able to.

If you’re short on ideas of what to include, have a look at some of the free poetry resources and materials we have at the library, which you can scan and print using the free scanners and printing stations throughout the library. We will also provide generative poetry prompts if you would like to write in your book by hand at the workshop.

Materials are limited, so please only register if you are able to attend, and please cancel as soon as possible if your availability changes.
