So You Wanna Start a Substack? Substack As Public Scholarship Online

A quick introduction to creative research communication

Curious about Substack but unsure where to begin? More than a newsletter platform, Substack has become a space for scholars, writers, and creators to share research, build communities, and experiment with public scholarship outside traditional publishing.

In this introductory session, we'll explore what Substack is, how academics and public scholars are using it, and how it can complement your research, teaching, and creative practice. We'll also discuss practical considerations, from publication workflows to audience building.

You'll leave with:

  • An understanding of how Substack fits into the public scholarship landscape
  • Examples of effective scholarly and creative Substack publications
  • Practical tips for getting started with your own publication

This event is part of a series of bite-size content from the Open Knowledge department.
